When I first started SharePoint 2013, I noticed that the "Alert Me" button was missing from library tab in SharePoint Ribbon.
First, I tought, that this functionality was removed from SharePoint 2013, but it isn't. It is still there, but the button isn't visible because Outgoing Mail settings are not configured in the server farm.
Outgoing Mail settings can be configured by follwing:
Central administration --> System Settings --> Configure outgoing e-mail settings (under E-mail and Text Messages).
On the next screen fill in the necessary data:
After that, "Alert Me" button should now be visible in library tab in SP Ribbon.
Thanks.......
ReplyDeleteGlad that it helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great article.
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome!
DeleteThis setting also enables the Send Request option for pages. How do we keep that disabled but the alerts enabled.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that I understand you. Where is that option located?
DeleteI guess that "Anonymous" is going for the "Request access to site", that is being handled under "Security Settings" for the site. And can be disabled/enabled there.
DeleteThis is spot on thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. It'd be a lot easier (Microsoft) if the button was still there and when you click on it, it gives you an informative warning that no email is set up for outgoing emails and that alerts can't be set up.
